CUI researcher Prof. Arwen Pearson from the Institute of Nanostructure and Solid State Physics (INF) at Universität Hamburg has been elected by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation as a Humboldt Scout. This gives her the opportunity to bring outstanding young researchers to Hamburg for two years and to promote the international and diverse research environment.
"I am delighted to have the opportunity to support excellent young colleagues," says Arwen Pearson. "On the one hand, we benefit from the ideas that the young researchers bring with them. On the other hand, we can also support talented individuals who do not have adequate career opportunities in their home countries or for whom Germany has not yet been an option".
Within the framework of the Henriette Herz Scouting Programme, the selected scouts can directly recruit up to three junior researchers from abroad with prestigious Humboldt Research Fellowships. The aim is to reach new academic and regional target groups. At the same time, the programme aims to increase the proportion of women in the research fellowship programme, which is why the first nomination must be of a female researcher.
The focus is on researchers whose academic qualifications are sufficient for the award of a Humboldt Research Fellowship, but who have not yet taken part in the application process.
"Once the fellowship is completed, the fellows become part of the Humboldt Alumni Network, which will be a further great benefit for their future career development, especially for young female academics," says Pearson.
