Applications and nominations are now open for the "Mildred Dresselhaus Guest Professorship Program 2024". The aim of the program is to promote outstanding female scientists and to stimulate or intensify international scientific collaborations - and to create role models for the scientific community in Hamburg.
Each year, the program honors one internationally outstanding female scientist with a Senior Award and one promising young scientist with a Junior Award. They receive personal prize money of 20,000 euros for the Senior Award and 10,000 euros for the Junior Award. In addition, they are invited to conduct research at the Cluster of Excellence "CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter" for a period of six months and benefit from the excellent conditions.
Mildred Dresselhaus (1939-2017) was a pioneer for the advancement of women in science and technology and was considered a role model by many. In recognition of the extraordinary achievements made by the renowned professor of physics and electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, the program was launched in 2012 at the "Hamburg Centre for Ultrafast Imaging" (CUI).
In 2013, the first female awardees conducted research at the cluster. In March 2024 the cluster celebrated the tenth anniversary together with many awardees in a jubilee conference.
