Prof. Wolfgang Parak conducts research in the field of biophotonics.

Prof. Wolfgang Parak has been named a Fellow of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE). This honor recognizes outstanding contributions to optics and photonics through technical achievements, as well as strong commitment to the community and the field of research.

Wolfgang Parak heads the Biophotonics Group at the Institute for Nanostructure and Solid State Physics at the University of Hamburg and serves as a Principal Investigator in the Cluster of Excellence “CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter.”

His research focuses on new nano- and microsystems and their applications in various fields such as medicine, biology, and electronic devices. His research activities are divided into the areas of colloidal nanoparticle synthesis, surface chemistry and bioconjugation of colloidal nanoparticles, as well as the application of colloidal nanoparticles in the life sciences.

Wolfgang Parak is one of 59 new SPIE Fellows. Each year, SPIE members and Fellows nominate other scientists who have distinguished themselves through outstanding achievements in publications or product development, participation in SPIE committees or editorial boards, as well as the promotion of scientific education or influence on policy. Of the more than 25,000 SPIE members, 1,950 have been named Fellows to date. The new Fellows will be honored later this year at a SPIE symposium of their choice.
