Starting October 1, the Wübben Stiftung Wissenschaft will award Felix Maximilian Gentsch a Student Grant for a total of twelve months. The physics student at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München was nominated by cluster spokesperson Prof. Francesca Calegari. The grant will enable him to conduct research within the Cluster of Excellence “CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter” on the Bahrenfeld campus and to complete his master’s thesis.
Each year, the foundation awards this grant to students who stand out for their exceptional scientific interest within the context of Clusters of Excellence. “Felix Maximilian Gentsch is an exceptionally talented and dedicated student. “I am convinced that he will benefit greatly from the excellent scientific environment in Hamburg,” says Francesca Calegari. She is the lead scientist at DESY and a professor at the University of Hamburg, specializing in laser spectroscopy and attosecond physics.
Felix Maximilian Gentsch is also particularly interested in attosecond physics. His bachelor’s thesis, which he completed at the chair of Nobel laureate Ferenc Krausz at LMU, addresses a challenging project in this field. In Hamburg, he will work on an ambitious project focusing on attosecond timing between few-cycle UV laser pulses and X-ray laser pulses.
Through the Student Grant, the Wübben Foundation provides annual funding of 1,000 euros per month for up to 55 students from all disciplines at German universities for one year. The goal is to give students in the final phase of their studies the opportunity to focus more intensely on their academic work. Particularly talented students who demonstrate a strong interest in the major research questions of their field and who think outside the box are selected. Nominations are made by the spokespersons of the Clusters of Excellence.
