Flying off: Arts & Science at Hamburg Airport
4 April 2024
For three months, the Cluster of Excellence "CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter" is presenting its "Arts & Science" exhibition as part of the "Kunst am Gate" - art at the gate - project at Hamburg Airport.
"Arts & Science" is the result of an initiative by the Cluster of Excellence, in which CUI researchers were asked to submit aesthetically pleasing images – whereby the scientific significance and topicality should not be in the foreground for once. Following exhibitions in Hamburg City Hall, at the Centre for Free-Electron Laser Science on the science campus Bahrenfeld and at the European XFEL, Arts & Science is now presented in the waiting area of gates C12 to C14 at Hamburg Airport.
"There has never been anything like this before with art at the gate," says Anke Redeker from the Art Advisory Board at Hamburg Airport. "At first glance, the paintings look like pop or street art. Only when you get closer and read the accompanying texts do you realize that these are real scientific findings. It's worth taking your time and letting the beauty of science sink in.”
The art at the gate project has been running since 2016, allowing for up to four different exhibitions a year.
