On the first stop of the Innovation Summer Tour, Science Senator Katharina Fegebank and Innovation Senator Michael Westhagemann today stopped at Universität Hamburg's Center for Optical Quantum Technologies (ZOQ), where Prof. Henning Moritz and Prof. Klaus Sengstock are some of the world's leading minds in the field of quantum physics. With ZOQ, Hamburg is one of the few places in the world that can build a "next generation" quantum computer.
"With innovation together for a livable city" is the motto and vision of the new Regional Innovation Strategy (RIS) of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The main levers for achieving the vision are the future topics defined a broad development process. These include health, climate and energy, mobility, data science and digitalization, as well as material sciences and new materials. With these future topics and concrete strategy and action areas, the city wants to create a bold culture of innovation. Prior to the visit to ZOQ, Fegebank and Westhagemann visited the world's leading chip provider NXP Semiconductors N.V. to see for themselves the innovative strength in the key areas of autonomous and electric driving, cyber security and Industry 4.0.
