When Sarodi Jonak Dutta enters the lab, gold, silver and copper are placed on the table. These metals can be synthesized into tiny structures with unique properties: they self-assemble into supercrystals. It is this research, and its potential to reduce dependence on fossil resources, that led Sarodi to Hamburg and to the Cluster of Excellence “CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter.” She has been living in the Hanseatic city for four years and loves its green surroundings and waterfront lifestyle.

In a second video Kai-Fu Wong describes his research with ultrashort pulses in the attosecond and femtosecond range, which allow for particularly precise investigation of states of matter. At the Bahrenfeld campus in Hamburg, the CUI researcher especially values the vibrant research environment and the chance to exchange ideas with many smart colleagues.
